DICTION INSTRUCTOR

The Diction Instructor will work with high school students of varying ages and skill levels. They will provide students with daily diction instruction as well as basic grammatical instruction in the major languages found in classical vocal music (Italian, French, German, and English.) The diction instructor should use the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) as a foundation for the diction portion of this course. With guidance from the Youth Program Director, the diction instructor will build lesson plans that cater to the student’s needs.

Key competencies and responsibilities 

  • Must have at least a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal music education and/or a Bachelor of Music degree in voice performance. Applicants without a bachelor’s degree will be considered based on relevant experience.  

  • Must have a clear understanding of best practices for training adolescent voices.  

  • Must have a clear understanding of “crossover” singing.  

  • Should understand how to train students in varying styles, with emphasis in classical technique and contemporary musical theatre.  

  • Must be able to deliver clear voice instruction in a group setting.  

  • Must have basic piano skills 

  • Should be able to accompany students through vocal warmups.  

Dates 

Must be available and on-site from 10:00 AM – 1:30 PM Monday – Friday from June 10th – July 26th 

It is required to be on-site on July 26th for the final performance from 7:30 PM - 10 PM.
