Miami Music Festival Technical Director

The Miami Beach Classical Music Festival (MMF) seeks a talented and experienced Technical Director to join the team and produce a festival experience focusing on immersive opera productions at the Faena Forum. The Technical Director is a key team member, ensuring that our operas are produced and presented at the highest level possible. We offer the opportunity to work in some of the highest-profile venues in Miami Beach. Our opera productions take place in the breathtaking Temple Emanu-el with rehearsals taking place in several additional Miami Beach venues. 

Founded in 2013, MMF is an educational organization and we equally prioritize the excellence of our student participants’ experience with the highest possible artistic quality of productions. 

Primary Job Functions

  • Responsible for the smooth technical execution of all MMF productions including operas, symphonic concerts, and smaller events and performances. 

  • Supervise and manage all production staff

  • Coordinate with the 3rd party Production Companies for all crew and labor needs.

  • Ensure proper set-up of rehearsal spaces for orchestra and opera rehearsals by coordinating with production personnel and stage management, and supervising crew. 

  • Collaboratively develop production budgets and schedules and ensure that all productions operate within established budgets and schedules. 

  • Serve as primary contact for venues, equipment rental providers, and other third-party service providers and ensure compliance with rental and other operating agreements and contracts. 

  • Ensure safe operation of equipment and adherence to public safety procedures in all venues. 

  • Follow, model, and enforce MMF’s COVID safety procedures. 

  • Operate and/or supervise the operation of light, sound, and other production and theatrical systems as needed. 

  • Hires and supervises crew within established budgets and guidelines. 

  • Lead or attend production meetings and other staff meetings as needed. 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of progressive full-time professional technical theater management experience, particularly in a multi-venue arts center or in a touring environment. 

  • Demonstrated experience with techniques, methods and procedures for executing multi-genre performing arts productions with specific experience in opera production and symphonic concerts. 

  • Working knowledge and training in a wide range of theatrical systems and production elements including stage, sets, stage management, computerized lighting systems, digital sound systems, rigging, and carpentry. 

  • Demonstrated experience leading and supervising diverse technical theater teams and crews in a variety of projects.

  • Ability to drive personal auto and/or Rental vehicles.

  • Valid driver’s license and good motor vehicle record.

  • Knowledge of the Miami Beach area and venues will be considered very helpful.

  • Strong overall knowledge of PC and Mac computers and software applications including Microsoft Office Suite, computerized lighting and sound systems, CAD and other production/facility software.
