OPERA SCENES PROGRAM
MMF Opera Studio
July 19 @ 7:30 PM
Weber Hall, Barry University
MMF Opera Studio singers perform an intriguing program of opera and operetta dating from the inception of the art form to current works. Scenes explored come from such varied works as L'incoronazione di Poppea, Le nozze di Figaro, Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles, Hansel and Gretel, The Merry Widow, Suor Angelica, Adamo’s Little Women, Carmen, Cavalli's La Doriclea, Dido and Aeneas, Les Contes d'Hoffmann and West Side Story.
Further expanding the repertoire, three song cycles in their entirety will be integrated, along with an innovative multimedia interface and staged right along with the opera scenes. Taking inspiration from such programs as Arizona Opera's Vocal Colors series, the New York Festival of Song, Five Boroughs Music Festival, and Wolf Trap’s Fine Tuning Concert Series (founded by new Studio Program director, Jeremy Frank) the Studio scenes programs aims to find new and engaging ways to perform art song that break the mold of traditional presentations.
