What is Projection Mapping?

Projection-Mapping Technology has the capability of rebranding and revitalizing the performing arts to be more accessible to all generations.

Projection mapping is a technological innovation that overlaps video onto all surfaces in a given space, turning ordinary objects - such as stages, buildings, and roads - into interactive displays. Every surface can become a canvas, with graphic projections that play off the surface’s shape and textures to create a delightful experience of light and illusion. In indoor theater settings, audiences sit in the center of a room with a continuous 360-degree graphic display wrapped around the room, coming to life as they interact with performers and other production elements. A unique audiovisual narrative where the video scenes are triggered by music from our live performances.

Highlights from MMF’s projection mapped concerts.

A moveable image can travel the full scope of the landscape where an element such as a horse can gallop around the entire room similar to the Van Gogh Immersive Experience.

IMMERSIVE PRODUCTIONS

IMMERSIVE PRODUCTIONS

On July 16, 2022, the MMF Wagner Institute, conducted by Founder and Artistic Director Michael Rossi, returned to Miami Beach in a long-anticipated performance of Das Rheingold, the thrilling prelude to Wagner’s famous Ring Cycle. This production marked the first time an entire opera has been performed with 360-degree projection mapping technology.

MMF has further delved into the technology’s possibilities, creating more audiovisual concerts in different venues which have garnered immense praise and have sparked a strong desire for more projection activations in the community. In February 2023, MMF designed Valentine’s themed graphics to accentuate The Betsy Hotel’s architectural features, turning a static structure into a dynamic canvas for visual art and storytelling. The projections were combined with live MMF singers helping the building come alive with images that shift and change in time with the music.

This past summer, MMF’s celebrated its 10th Anniversary Season with three immersive productions: Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortileges, Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, and an Immersive Space Symphony and we look forward to many more immersive productions.
