Praised by the New York Times for his “understated but unmistakable virtuosity” along
with a “winning combination of gentleness and fluidity,” Svet Stoyanov is a driving force in modern percussion.
Mr. Stoyanov is a winner of the prestigious Concert Artists Guild International Competition and most recently was given the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Award. His career highlights feature solo concerto appearances with the Chicago, Seattle, and the American Symphony Orchestras, as well as solo performances in Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and Taiwan National Concert Hall amongst many others worldwide.
Some of the conductors he has performed with include James Conlon, Gerard Schwarz, Oliver Knussen, Marin Alsop and Pierre Boulez.
Svet Stoyanov’s debut solo album “Percussive Counterpoint” was released to a great acclaim, airing on multiple radio stations across the globe. “Percussive Counterpoint” has established itself as a rare artistic milestone by simultaneously featuring world-class performances of solo percussion repertoire, chamber music and a theatrical percussion video presentation (Enhanced CD feature). Svet Stoyanov’s newest album “Textures and Threads” was released most recently on Bridge Records. It honors the music of American Composer/Princeton University Professor and Electronic Music veteran Paul Lansky and features two of his milestone chamber works. Mr. Stoyanov has also recorded for the Naxos and Telarc labels.
A passionate advocate for contemporary and new music, Svet Stoyanov has commissioned a significant body of new solo and chamber works. This is a commitment that he considers essential to his role as a musician today. Upcoming commissions for Mr. Stoyanov feature a concerto by Mason Bates, as well as works by John Psathas, Alejandro Vinao, Rodrigo Bussad, Rafael Piccolotto de Lima and recent Rome Prize winner Andy Akiho.
Svet Stoyanov is the Director and Professor of Percussion Studies at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami, where he has built a most unique and innovative modern percussion program. He endorses some of the finest percussion instruments and products today, namely Adams, Remo, Zildjian, Pearl and Vic Firth.
Mr. Stoyanov has performed in more than one thousand recitals and has presented hundreds of masterclasses worldwide. Additionally to solo and chamber music, his extensive experience as a percussionist features almost all main musical settings, namely musicals, recording sessions, numerous orchestras as a section player, and many others.
