Sergio J. Puig, born in Cuba and raised in Miami, Florida, received his Bachelor of Music Degree from The Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, studying with Karyl Louwenaar, and his Master of Music Degree in Vocal Accompanying and Coaching from the University of Illinois, studying with John Wustman. His work has taken him to Central City Opera, Texas Opera Theater, Opera Omaha, Florida Grand Opera, Pittsburgh Opera Theater, Minnesota Opera, and San Francisco Opera Center’s Merola Opera Program. His duties have included coach/accompanying, assistant conducting, repetiteur, and musical direction. As rehearsal pianist and coach/accompanist, Mr. Puig has worked with such singers as Helen Donath, James Morris, Deborah Voight, Diana Soviero, Vinson Cole, Roberta Peters, Maria Guleghena, Salvatore Licitra, Gwen Jones, Angela Brown, Elizabeth Caballero, Eglise Gutierrez, and Juan Diego-Florez. Mr. Puig is equally as comfortable on the concert stage and has performed numerous solo and chamber music recitals throughout South Florida. He has also served as keyboard sub in touring musicals such as, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard, and Showboat.
