Abel Pereira - Horn
Abel Pereira - Principal Horn of the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington DC with Christoph Echenbach as Music Director. One of the most respected Portuguese artists, internationally renowned, was born in Porto in the late 70´s.
Since his first solo performance at the age of 11 he has developed an intense concert and master-classe activity in many international music festivals around the world through Europe, North and South América, Ásia, África and Middle East, including the prestigious International Horn Society´s Symposiums.
He was awarded at the “Leeuwarden International Horn Competition” (Netherlands), Internationaler Instrumentalwettbewerb Markneukirchen (Germany), Concertino Praga (Czech Republic) and PJM-RDP (Portugal). In 1998 he received from the hands of Vladimir Ashkenazy and Bernard Haitink the European Master-Prize.
From the amount of records he performed, stand out the complete Mozart Horn Concerti for AP Records, the URTEXT Mozart 4th Concerto for EMI Classics, Romantic Repertoire for Horn and Piano, R. Strauss 1st Horn Concerto and the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante for Stellenbosch Uni. Records.
He was principal horn with Porto Symphony Orchestra, Casa da Música and teacher at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra in Lisbon and Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo in Porto.
During his career he performed more than 50 solo concerts with many world class orchestras. The AvantGard Praha Newspaper says “…fantastic phrasing and a velvet sound…” and the Johannesburg Arts, Culture and Heritage Magazine “…brilliant performance, clear articulation and powerful sound…”
Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Bernard Haitink, Sir Colin Davis,Vladimir Ashkenazy, Alan Gilbert, Mstislav Rostropovich, Carl Maria Giulini are some of the conductors he played with in the most prestigious venues like the Royal Concertgebouw, Berliner Philharmonie, La Scala di Milano, Cite de la Musique, Royal Albert Hall, London Festival Hall, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Wiener Musikverein and Munchen Gasteig.
He is been acting for many years as guest principal horn with MusicAeterna Orkestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, London Philharmonic and Berliner Philharmoniker.
He loves to sail and cooking creation.
